This is what I think of as garnet color. There are many wines and burgundies out there but very few in this particular hue --without the cool blue or purple tendencies. It doesn't read as "brown," to my eyes. Works well on my warm-toned skin. I am drawn to brown-toned red colors -garnet, cinnabar -and they don't seem to show up very often right now. Perfect for a fall or winter pedicure, would feel less right in spring. Glad to have found this.
I would almost call this a red rather than a brown: a deep, clear, brick red.
I would almost call this a red rather than a brown: a deep, clear, brick red. In strong light, it looks much more red, while in indirect light, it does seem more like a brown. Essie did name it Downtown Brown, so perhaps they were thinking of the classic brownstone buildings of the late 19th and early 20th century? Whatever the case, and however you want to look at this polish, it is very red for a brown, or it's brown for a red. Either way, I like the colour. It's a nice, rich, autumn tone.I love the formula on this. Application is straightforward, and I had opacity with two coats. This seems to be a jelly-creme formula, and it's got a nice, shiny finish and good colour depth. Very worthwhile colour, I'm glad I picked it up. I almost didn't, because I thought, do I really need another brown? Happily, none of the browns I have are this red, and none of the reds are this brown, so it works out very well, indeed. I haven't been much of an Essie girl until recently, but I'm slowly being won over by the great quality, I must say.
I love nude colours and bought this as it looked quite nude on swatches I saw online.
I love nude colours and bought this as it looked quite nude on swatches I saw online. To me it's more of a blush pink/rose, with a slightly beige undertone. It's very pretty. I think I prefer more peachy toned nudes on my nails though. Formula is great however, not streaky at all and is opaque in 2 coats.
Love this product.
Love this product. Pretty sure that I read in a magazine a couple years ago that it was a good nude shade for fair skin, and that is so true. I never would have purchased it otherwise, based just on how it looks in the bottle. Great for an understated, clean, but not pink pedicure. Looks great with nude toned sandals. Unfortunately, it looks to me like it's been discontinued. :(
Target is resetting their makeup plan-o-gram and there are tons of items are on clearance.
Target is resetting their makeup plan-o-gram and there are tons of items are on clearance. I bought this polish for $1.00 and a couple of others too. I like Downtown Brown ~ it's a perfect reddish brown for winter in So CA (sandals year round). I don't wear black, brown or purple polishes, so this is the closest I will get to nail polish fashion trends.I have never worn Essie polishes before as I have always been an OPI girl. Typically, I do not do my own toe nails, but the economy has got me down and I have to compromise. This polish goes on easily (two coats did the trick) and seems to dry pretty fast (two most important things to me). I like this product and will buy this brand again...
