Prep your nails and apply a base coat like Essie Treatment - First Base Base Coat

This is such a pretty colour a cross between a bright red and slight coral, depending on what you're wearing and how the light hits it. It applies really smoothly but I find that within 2 or 3 days it has already chipped significantly at the tips (I use the Essie base and top coats). As with all Essie polishes, I need to let this dry for at least 3-4 hours or else I'll find subtle marks/creases on the nails.

Viva Antigua! is from Essie Summer 2016 Collection. It's a turquoise, shimmer polish. The shimmer is more noticeable in the bottle than it is on the nail. The formula is pretty good. It is highly pigmented, so you will get perfect opacity in 2 thin coats. But the formula is a little thin, making it easy to flood cuticles if you are not careful. Essie polishes have 2 different brush sizes (I think I have read somewhere that thinner brushes are produced in the US and wider one in Europe, but it could be other way around). My bottle has a thin brush, but I prefer their wider brush, as I have wide nail beds. If you are buying from places like TKMaxx/TJMaxx, you could come across both versions and the easiest way to tell without unscrewing the cap is, if the name label is on the top of the cap the brush is wide. If the name label is on the base of the bottle the brush is thin.Despite the fact that the shimmer is not as noticeable I was hoping, it is still a very pretty, summery colour and it suits my skin tone, so I would repurchase this polish. P.S. If you like this polish, you might also like Naughty Nautical from Summer 2013 Collection, which has the same formula and shimmer effect, but the base colour is teal, rather than turquoise.

I actually was pleasantly surprised by this polish! I was afraid the micro-shimmer would be too much, but IMO it was just right. Very cheerful summer color, and it wears extremely well. The formula isn't super shiny, but it's easy to cheat if you have a gel topcoat and an LED gel light. That will be my next experiment with this color. It is also great for a pedicure. Very happy I bought this!!

Pretty summer-y turquoise polish. From their Summer 2016 Collection, Essie's Viva Antigua! is a bright shade of aquamarine that's shot through with TONS of silvery microshimmer. Unfortunately, it didn't look as good on my nails as it did in the bottle. Overall, it looked a little cheesy. And 80s, but not in a good way.The formula was also a little tricky and not so easy to work with. Streaky, patchy, flooded my cuticles. But it was opaque after two coats, and I didn't have any problems with wear. I liked this one but I didn't love it. Wouldn't buy it again.
