For Color Treated Hair. Makes colored hair supple and soft while increasing shine with Liquid Crystal Technology.
I am seriously impressed with my color longevity while using this shampoo (and matching conditioner). Brilliance has both sodium lauryl and laureth sulfate at the top of the ingredient list, but my color retention is slightly *better* with the Brilliance line than when I used other salon brand sulfate-free color care shampoos. My thick hair is pixie-short and colored a reddish-copper brown, and I wash almost daily because of activity and styling products. This shampoo does not have a lot of grease-cutting power as it barely foams up if I try to wash out silicone styling serums, but it will lather up mild/moderately If I do a second washing (which I almost never do). I love how it gives my hair lots of shine, softness and natural texture, and also because it doesn't make my thick wavy hair poufy. Contains "liquid crystal technology" must be the diamond powder. Maybe that's what's making my hair shiny? I love the scent, too! It's a soft, neutral floral. I will replenish when it runs out.
I really do like this conditioner. My colored pixie-cut hair is thick with wave/curl and I need products to condition well, or else I get poufy. It seems to work fine with the matching Brilliance Shampoo (for Coarse Hair) because it provides softness and texture to my hair without a lot of buildup. My hair looks and feels clean the next day, so this conditioner doesn't overly condition to the point where it clings and picks up dirt. It feels moderately rich and in truth it reminds me of the conditioner packs that come with at-home coloring kits because it has that same "slip" through my hair as I work it in. The scent is a light, musky floral. Very nice! I will repurchase.
I bought this conditioner (along with the Wella Brilliance shampoo also wrote a review on that) on a whim, without checking the MUA ratings first. I just finished the bottle and came to MUA to write a review. I'm surprised to see such low ratings. The fragrance is fresh and pleasant. The conditioner was very rich and put moisture back into my color-treated, wavy, and somewhat coarse hair. The bottle lasted a long time. I still had some fly-aways and frizz, although that is typical for me. So nothing really wrong with this conditioner as far as I'm concerned, although I'm glad to be back to using my favorites (Redken & Aquage) again.
I bought this and tried it thinking it might give extra moisture and weight in these winter months as I had been using the one for fine/normal hair. I thought maybe it might be too heavy or weigh my hair down. It did leave my fine waves/curls a tiny bit limp, but it really did NOTHING. I don't see how this would be good for anyone with coarse hair. The shampoo might be better, but I found the conditioner completely worthless. I thought the conditioner for fine/normal hair did a much better job at leaving my curls look nice, bouncy and healthy. Like I said, it isn't just that it was not the right conditioner for my hair type, it just didn't condition period.
For a drugstore product I was impressed (I have very rarely been impressed with a drugstore product on my hair). I used it as a conditioner rather than a treatment and it left my hair very soft and smooth and it was so easy to comb through the tangles. For girls on a budget who would like a near salon quality conditioner/treatment I recommend you give this a go.
