I've always been a do-it-myself manicurist. I'm extremely picky and usually don't like paying for something that I can do better myself. After deciding that gel wasn't as difficult to remove as I was dreading, I've invested in a few products. As a reference, no matter what brand or color I'm using, I always start with Gelish foundation, lay down three coats of color, and then finish with Kiss Gel (old formula) top coat. I do this because I'm very hard on my hands (I used to work in what essentially amounts to woodworking, using lots of tools, machinery, adhesives, and solvents). As for color polish, I've used Gelish, Red Carpet, OPI, Sally Hansen, Orly and Gelaze. Gelaze has been by far my favorite of all the brands. I've found with all others, I have to fight the polish shrinking back from the free edge and cuticle. It got to the point where I would just work one nail at a time, which ends up being far more time consuming. I've had very few problems with Gelaze shrinking back. In addition, I find the color of the bottles are truer to color than with other brands. There may be some slight variation but they're much closer than the colored/printed labels other bottles use. A prime example is Gelish's You Dare, I Glow. Label shows the color as a dark purple but the polish itself is a vibrant magenta, like the flowers on purple iceplant. (Also, the color is gorgeous but the shrink back is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE).I also find that Gelish wear time is excellent. I could easily go three weeks between manicures if it wasn't for the nail growth. Now, it may be because I use base, three coats of color and top coat but again, I do this because I'm rough on my hands. If I'm going to spend an 45 minutes to an hour doing my nails, I don't want to cut corners just to have to re-do them in a few days. I don't want to have to worry about them for another two weeks and with this brand, I don't.
