Dip powder. Maybe you've tried it. Maybe you haven't. Maybe you've been wanting to try it. Dip powder continues to be a rising trend in nails and the reasons are pretty obvious.

There are a lot of benefits to dip powder manicures. For one, it's odor free. You don't have to endure sitting through those toxic fumes waiting for your nails to dry. Speaking of toxic, most dip powder formulas are free of toxins commonly found in nail polish. SNS dip powders are 3-free and don't contain Formaldehyde, Toluene or DBP. Revel Nail dip powders are 7-free and don't contain Formaldehyde, Toulene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, and Xylene. Definitely a good reason to try dip powders, right?

Dip powder manicures don't require any UV light. Most systems have a 3-step application process: base coat, dip powder, and top coat/activator. You get the same gel-like shine without the harmful effects!

Dip powders come in a variety of colors. If you've been a fan of brands like OPI, many of your favorite shades are now available in the Powder Perfection collection. No matter what mood you're feeling, there's a color for it! Browse our entire dip powder collection to see dozens of colors perfect for any occasion.

So if you're considering trying out the dip powder manicure, there are some things you should keep in mind.

Dip powder treatments can last up to a month.

Licensed nail technician Harli G says, "Dip manicures are supposed to last 3 weeks, but they may even last up to a month or more depending on the level of at-home care after the treatment is applied."

Many salons don't carry the treatment for concerns over sanitation.

It's unsanitary to have multiple clients dip their fingers into the same container of powder and it's an easy way for nail infections to be passed between clients. This is typically why you don't often see dip powder manicure services performed at salons.

Your natural nail can become fragile.

As with everything else, dip powder manicures are great in moderation. Excess nail enhancements come with the risk of your nail plates becoming dehydrated and brittle. According to Harli, "In my experience, most issues with poor natural nail health are a result of nail enhancements, particularly dip nails, and stem from attempts at a DIY removal at home. It's always safest to go back to the salon and have a licensed professional remove the product for you."
