Yes, this takes a little getting used to and you might bump your nail on the magnet if you try to hover your finger. Before use, I tested a few objects to find something to rest my finger on to get it closer to the magnet. I wound up using a thin book of poetry, but anything would work. It works well to get a more concentrated line. I place the magnet so that I can see the ends sticking out from under the frame - that way I can be more exact with placement of the line on the nail.

I put the magnet at an angle to get a tilted cat eye. I find this super-convenient and easy to use!

This little tool is not as effective as I’d hoped. The magnet doesn’t seem very strong. I also find it awkward to find a comfortable, useful way to hold my hand. I will continue to practice with it and make updates if necessary.

I was super excited about this product. However, it arrived completely bent, and then I found it incredibly difficult to use without messing up my nails, so unfortunately, I won't be using it again.
