Comparison of some soft shades; 2 are iridescent.

Comparison of some soft shades; 2 are iridescent. I have reviewed all of them on MUA:Full Size ImageFull Size ImageIf you like the idea of Bubble Bath, maybe even tried it, and thought... "Eh what's the big deal...." or "Little boring for me", then consider a little iridescence to spice things up and add a little mystery, but still remain proper and polished. Enter: Otherwise Engaged (and Altar Ego)! The beauty of this shade is that it is probably lighter than your skin tone, so you'll appear tanner than you actually are. Otherwise Engaged is a natural base that has this slight flash of pink iridescence. It's subtle, and lovely. It's like giving yourself something to play with all day, catching the flash in different lighting. Use a base coat and a steady hand with a consistent amount of polish to reduce streaking. I think two light coats is ideal. You still have VNL, and see the color. Some have stated the "fake nails look"... I feel like when it is opaque (3 coats), it is no longer flattering, and yeah does look fake or just odd. But one or two coats gives healthy looking nails with a little umph! So, if you like blue-based pinks, try Altar Ego. If you like warm pinks, try Otherwise Engaged. If you like both, honestly, get them both. If you can only buy one: get Altar Ego.

Before we begin: why 4*: the polish is a little thicker than I like I can't apply it in a very thin layer I like thin nails. Also the pigment tend to settle in the bottom.I really like to wear nail polish. The problem is it usually lasts me about 2-3 days without chipping/wearing off a little, and I'm kinda OCD when it comes to those things unlike some people (props to them for not caring!), I absolutely can't stand a chipped up manicure on myself and take the nail polish off as soon as there are any chips. I have also had long-wearing polishes, but they usually take a long time to dry, and as the busy person I am, I always manage to make marks in the manicure before it dries. I was thinking about it for many months, but finally decided that I *really need* to buy myself a gel-manicure kit. I was thinking about the OPI one at first, but the UV/LED light in is super-expensive where I live, so it was out of the question pretty quickly. I then stumbled upon the Sensationail kit, which was half the price of the OPI one and has gotten very good reviews, so I bought it, not even thinking much about it. Luckily, I AM happy with the purchase :) I did find out though, that there might be an even better kit available some places some people say the nail polishes last even longer, and it's the Red Carpet Manicure. I might try it out their nail polish at some point, but I think it might not be very soon. So, I have the Sensationail base/top coat, and a coloured nail polish from OPI. Therefore I will not be able to say anything about how the base and top coat from OPI works. The thing I have heard though, is that their base coat *might* be less shiny than the top coat, but the top coat can actually be used as a base coat, so it's possible to buy only that if you think $34 is too much money for top+base coat (one costs about $16). The coloured polish I bought from OPI is Otherwise Engaged mostly because I wanted to start out with a nude-ish kind of colour in case I was really bad at applying gel polish. At first I was really disappointed with the colour it seemed very sheer. What helped was storing the bottle upside down for about an hour the pigments settle really bad, and the polish is so thick that you can't really shake it properly when it's very full. The polish has tiny shimmers in it in light pink and light violet colour... and I really don't like violet on me, even in the smallest amount. I guess I should have gone for Bubble Bath instead it's also very sheer, but it doesn't have any type of shimmer. The application: I have a base/top coat from Sensationail, so I don't know if this is the case for the OPI top and base coat, but the polish itself is quite thick. WARNING: I have read from some people that their polish is thin, but this is not the case with the one I have. I unwillingly began thinking about if the polish was old... then I remembered that this polish needs UV/LED light to actually dry, so it won't dry out like regular nail polishes do. To those who wonder if they can somehow cure (=dry/set) the gel polish without a UV or UV/LED lamp absolutely NO. The lamp make a chemical reaction happen in the polish that you will not manage to do in any other way. I put a little bit of polish on come paper in the sun it was there for days and didn't harden. Thick polish his can be both bad and good: the bad about it is that it's a little awkward to apply. Anyway, this polish is thick and applies a little uneven at first, but it evens out nicely (just don't cure the polish before it has evened out). The good thing about the polish being so thick is that it won't begin to run if it's not cured fast enough, like thin polishes do. Thin gel polishes also have a tendency to shrink/pull back a little if not cured fast enough OPI Gelcolor doesn't have this problem. It's difficult to say which I prefer though...I DO like that thin gel polish can be applied in very thin layers (and be opaque), which is hard with a thick gel polish. Thick polish is easier to clean up from the skin and cuticles though (I find, at least) and because it doesn't run far as much, so it's more difficult to mess up. The lasting power is really good for me: 2 weeks without any chips at this point my nails were very long, so I couldn't take it any more :P The important part is to apply the polish as recommended, and especially important to remember:capping the ends and not apply any polish on the skin or cuticles otherwise you will have free edges where oils, water and air can get under the polish. Free ends will also stick right up when the nail grows out a little and might catch up on clothes etc, which will shorten the wear time and generally not look very nice. wipe your nail down with 75-99% (99% is definitely best) isopropyl alcohol or other fluid supplied with gel nail polishes meant to dissolve oil the nail polish sticks way better to a non-oily nail (even nail-polish remover leaves some oil behind)some kind of bonding fluid for gel nails is ...

Such a pretty neutral! On my NC15 skin it looks slightly lighter, very fresh and good for all year round. I love to wear this when I'm tired of wearing colors and need an alternative. Soft cool-toned transparent pink (almost iridescent). I use two layers, but it looks good with one too good formula and non-streaky. Would be a perfect 'classic' bridal shade too!

My favourite nude nail polish! It last really long, it covers well I normally use two coatings and then top it with a topcoat but if I only use one layer it covers nicely as well.. I just prefer that the nail polish is not see through which is why I normally use two.
