Q: What is the purpose of offering multiple Base and Top Coats in the CND Shellac Gel Polish Portfolio?

A: CND provides a variety of products that offer unique benefits for customized results recommended by the nail professional. See the chart below for more information on each of the different CND Shellac Top & Base Coats

Q: How long does it take to cure CND Shellac Base Coats?

A: All CND Shellac Base Coats should be cured for 10 seconds in the CND LED Lamp (preset button 1) or 10 seconds in the CND UV Lamp.

Q: Does the natural nail need to be filed prior to applying CND Shellac Original or Wear Extender Base Coat?

A: No buffing or filing on the natural nail is necessary with the CND Shellac Gel Polish System.

Q: How is CND Shellac Wear Extender Base Coat different from Original Base Coat?

A: CND Shellac Wear Extender Base Coat is ideal for nails with imperfections or ridges, as it creates a smooth nail surface while extending normal CND Shellac Gel Polish wear.

Q: Can all CND Shellac Top Coats be used with Wear Extender Base Coat?

A: We recommend CND Shellac Original or DURAFORCE Top Coat for 3 week wear.

Q: Can CND Shellac Wear Extender Base Coat be worn alone without color?

A: CND Shellac Wear Extender Base Coat is designed as the base layer to the CND Shellac system and requires CND Shellac Color and Top Coat for best wear.

Q: Does DURAFORCE Top Coat make the nail stronger after color is removed?

A: No. DURAFORCE Top Coat is not a nail treatment. Nails will feel stronger while wearing the CND Shellac Gel Polish, but it will not affect the condition of the natural nail.

Q: Can the CND Shellac Base Coats, Color Coats, and Top Coats be cured in either CND lamp?

A: Yes. All CND Shellac Base Coats, Colors, and Top Coats can be cured in either the CND UV or CND LED Lamps.

Q: How long does it take to cure CND Shellac Color Coat?

A: CND SHELLAC Color Coat should be cured for one minute in the CND LED Lamp (preset button 2S) or two minutes in the CND UV Lamp.

Q: How long does it take to cure CND Shellac Top Coat?

A: CND SHELLAC Top Coats should be cured for one minute in the CND LED Lamp (preset button 3) and two minutes in the CND UV Lamp.

Q: What if I experience "wrinkling" during curing?

A: Wrinkling of the color coat can happen if application was too thick. Remember to always apply all layers thin for best results. In some cases, the appearance of "wrinkling" can be corrected with the CND SHELLAC Top Coat application.

Q: What can be used to think CND SHELLAC Gel Polish?

A: Thinning CND SHELLAC Base Coats, Color Coat, or Top Coats is not recommended. Polish thinner or acetone cannot be used without affecting the product's efficacy. To keep CND SHELLAC Gel Polish at its best consistency, vigorously shake the bottle before every application. Tightly seal the cap and store bottles away from light when not in use.

Q: Can CND SHELLAC Gel Polish be used with other nail products?

A: CND SHELLAC Gel Polish was designed to be used as a system. For a superior service, perform P.E.P., use all three components of the CND SHELLAC system (Base Coat, Color Coat, Top Coat) and always use the CND LED or UV Lamp.

Q: What causes cloudiness or dullness in CND SHELLAC Top Coats?

A: There are a few reasons that could cause cloudiness or dullness in CND SHELLAC Top Coats:

  • Insufficient removal of the top film can dull the shine. Always use 99% IPA to thoroughly remove the top film
  • Use a gently tough and soft pad when removing the soft film to avoid scratching the surface
  • Check lamp performance. If it's not operating at full capacity, the CND SHELLAC will not properly cure and can contribute to dullness in the finish and breakdown
  • If Top Coats are applied too thick, they will not properly cure and can contribute to dullness in the finish

Q: How do I remove CND SHELLAC Gel Polish?

A: CND SHELLAC Gel Polish should be removed with CND Foil Remover Wraps and OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover. Saturate the cotton pad on the CND Foil Remover Wrap with OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover, wrap each finger with the wrap, and set timer based on the CND SHELLAC Top Coat being used.

Press and massage the nail and using a twisting motion, pull the wrap off. Rub the nail with a plastic-backed, lint-free pad saturated with OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover to remove any residue.

Q: Can cotton and foil be used to remove CND SHELLAC Gel Polish?

A: CND Foil Wraps were developed specifically for the CND SHELLAC removal process and targeted application of acetone exposure to the nail and surrounding skin. If you run out of CND Foil Remover Wraps, cotton and foil can be used as a temporary solution.

Q: Can CND SHELLAC Gel Polish be used with enhancements (Liquid and Powder and Gel)?

A: Yes. The CND SHELLAC Gel Polish system can be used over enhancements.

Q: How do I remove CND SHELLAC Gel Polish from enhancements?

A: CND SHELLAC must be filed off prior to an enhancement rebalance.

Q: Can CND SHELLAC Gel Polish colors be mixed?

A: No. Each shade is specifically formulated as a standalone color, allowing for optimum cure. Mixing colors will compromise the ratios of reactant ingredients. However, you may layer shades (each color layer must be cured before applying another layer) to create custom color combinations).

Q: Will CND SHELLAC Gel Polish last longer than 14 days?

A: Wear time may vary based on client nail type and lifestyle. To extend wear for up to three weeks, apply CND SHELLAC Wear Extender Base Coat prior to color. Removal can also take slightly longer after 14 days, as adhesion will increase the longer CND SHELLAC is worn.

Q: How many approximate services per bottle of CND SHELLAC Gel Polish?

A: The number of services depends on the product & bottle size:

  • CND SHELLAC Wear Extender Base Coat = 35 (0.25 fl. oz) / 59 (0.42 fl. oz)
  • CND SHELLAC Base Coat = 35 (0.25 fl. oz) / 59 (0.42 fl. oz)
  • CND SHELLAC Color Coats = 20 (0.25 fl. oz)
  • CND SHELLAC Original and XPRESS Top Coat = 20 (0.25 fl oz) / 40 (0.5 fl. oz)

  • CND SHELLAC Special Effects Top Coats = 20 (0.25 fl. oz)

CND Vinylux Long Wear Polish System

Q: What is CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish?

A: CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish is a 2-step long wear nail polish system that provides 7+ days of exception wear with high shine in no time.

Q: What is the difference between the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System and the CND SHELLAC Gel Polish System?

A: The CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System is designed for a 7+ day wear with fast drying time and removes easily with OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover. NOTE: Does NOT require the use of the CND LED Lamp.

The CND SHELLAC Gel Polish System provides 14+ days of high-performance wear, high shine, zero dry time, and removal in 5 minutes (when used with XPRESS Top Coat) with NO NAIL DAMAGE (when used as directed).

Q: How does the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System technology work?

A: CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish features adhesion promoters making the polish self-adhering to the natural nail. Therefore, there's no need for a base coat, resulting in faster service time. CND VINYLUX Long Wear Top Coat features ProLight Technology with time-enhanced durability, creating a shield of protection when used with the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish.

Q: Does the CND VINYLUX Color Coat stain nails?

A: CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish was developed with technology to elimiate the need for a base coat. On healthy nails, the color coat will not stain. However, for dry, peeling or damaged nails, it's recommended that you apply a thin layer of RIDGEFX (or a nail treatment) prior to the CND VINYLUX Color application.

Q: Does CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish thicken over time like regular nail polish?

A: Yes, as with any solvent containing product, when the cap is removed from the bottle, the solvents will evaporate. To keep CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish Color Coat at its best consistency, vigorously shake the bottle before every application. Store bottles away from light when they are not in use and always tightly seal the cap between applications.

Q: What is the dry time of the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System?

A: 8.5 minutes for fully dry nails.

Q: How should CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish be applied to achieve best results?

A: For best results, cleanse natural nail with SCRUBFRESH Nail Surface Cleanser, and apply two thin layers of CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish, followed by a thin layer of CND VINYLUX Top Coat.

Q: Will adding a base coat provide any extra adhesion?

A: RIDGEFX Nail Surface Enhancer is synergistically designed to be used with the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System and will not interfere with adhesion. Adding any other base coats to the system will actually create a barrier between the color and the nail plate, negating the CND VINYLUX adhesion properties and affecting wear longevity.

Q: Will CND VINYLUX Top Coat work with other enamel brands?

A: The CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System is a 2-step system that must be used together for ultimate performance. The color delivers superior strength adhesion while the top coat shields and protects the color coat. Together, they work to deliver up to a week of chip-free, high-shine wear.

Q: Should CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish be shaken prior to use?

A: Yes, shake the CND VINYLUX Color Coat vigorously prior to application, since the color pigments can separate from the solvents after sitting for a long period of time.

Q: Should the CND VINYLUX Top Coat be shaken prior to use?

A: Yes, shake the CND VINYLUX Top Coat to blend.

Q: What steps can be taken to ensure that CND VUNYLUX Long Wear Polish performs at its best?

A: CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish should be kept in a cool, dry area. When used in a climate that is hot and humid, it is best to keep bottles stored in a temperature controlled room. Also, always make sure to tighten the cap securely.

Q: Can CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System be applied over Liquid and Powder Enhancements?

A: Yes, for Liquid & Powder enhancements, smooth and refine enhancement with a 1200 grit buffer, like the KOALA BUFFER. Apply two layers of CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish followed by CND VINYLUX Long Wear Top Coat.

Q: Can CND VINYLUX Long Wear System be applied over BRISA Gel Enhancements?

A: Yes, for BRISA Gel Enhancements, after removing the top film of BRISA Gloss with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol, gently remove the shine with the 180 grit padded file like the Boomerang Padded File. Apply 2 layers of CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish followed by CND VINYLUX Long Wear Top Coat.

Q: Can CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish Colors be mixed together to create new colors?

A: Yes, CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish Colors can be mixed together to create new colors.

Q: How do you remove CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish?

A: CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish is best removed with OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover, or pure acetone. Saturate a plastic-backed cotton pad with OFFLY FAST Moisturizing Remover or acetone, and place pad on the nail for 5 seconds. Use firm pressure with a circular motion to remove the color from the nail. Change the plastic-backed pad often to avoid redepositing color to the nail.

Q: Would using a light-curing nail lamp be beneficial to the dry time of the CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish System?

A: No, CND VINYLUX Long Wear Polish is designed to work like a regular polish -- there is no lamp needed.

CND Plexigel

Q: Are two layers of CND PLEXIGEL Shaper needed?

A: Yes, we recommend two layers for best wear. Apply the first layer thinly for optimal control of best comfort and best adhesion and the second layer as needed for each client.

Q: Can CND SHELLAC Top Coat be used over CND PLEXIGEL instead of Protector Top Coat?

A: For clear enhancements, we recommend using CND PLEXIGEL Protector Top Coat. If using CND SHELLAC Gel Polish over CND PLEXIFEL, finish with CND SHELLAC Original (or DURAFORCE) Top Coat instead of the Protector Top Coat.

Q: Can nail art mediums (i.e. pigment, glitter, embellishments, etc) be used with CND PLEXIGEL?

A: CND PLEXIGEL is the perfect base for nail art. We recommend applying a base enhancement layer of the CND PLEXIGEL system (Bonder, Shaper/Builder and Protector Top Coat) before applying art elements. This will protect the integrity of the enhancement during wear.

Then add art elements as desired, including embedding and encasing embellishments or blending pigments and additives into CND PLEXIGEL on the top layer.

Q: Is it possible to apply CND PLEXIGEL too thin?

A: Yes. If your client experiences cracking or chipping, you may be applying the gel too thin. Try applying an additional layer and ensure to seal the edge of all layers for best wear.

Q: Could CND SHELLAC Base Coat be used instead of CND PLEXIGEL Bonder?

A: No. To guarantee the longevity of a CND PLEXIGEL service, CND PLEXIGEL Bonder must be used to anchor the enhancement to the nail and act as an attraction layer during sculpting.

Q: Can CND PLEXIGEL be cured in the CND UV Lamp?

A: The CND UV Lamp has a beautiful broad distribution of wave length and should do a good job. However, since CND no longer manufactures the UV Lamp, we did not text it with CND PLEXIGEL.

We recommend the CND LED Lamp as top choice for proper curing. CND PLEXIGEL was calibrated to properly cure in both of our CND LED lamps (closed or open units). If another lamp is used, it might lead to under or over curing and could impact the wear results of the product.

Q: Can CND PLEXIGEL be properly cured with a mini hand-help LED light?

A: Mobile or mini LED lights have a wide range of light output, which makes it difficult to calibrate their effectiveness in proper curing with CND PLEXIGEL. We recommend using the CND LED Lamp that is calibrated to work as a system together with the CND Custom Cure protocol to ensure proper and comfortable cure.

Q: Why do some clients experience heat when curing?

A: CND PLEXIGEL is a monomer-rich formula and some clients may experience heat sensitivity.

Q: What does flash cure do?

A: Flash Cure means to partially cure the gel for 2-3 "flashes" in the CND LED Lamp for client comfort and product control. Using the CND LED Lamp with button 1 for 2-3 pulses will reduce the output by 50%, which will control the heat sensation. Once the gel is applied to the entire hand, cure for one minute using preset button 2B for complete cure.

Q: What is the purpose of the large bottle neck?

A: The CND PLEXIGEL bottle was designed specifically for ease of use based on the individual viscosity of each product. The larger bottle neck accommodates the viscosity of the gel, making it easier to remove from the bottle and for portion control with each application.

Q: What is the purpose of the two different brushes for CND PLEXIGEL?

A: The length of the brushes has been uniquely adapted to provide an easy application based on their viscosities.

The CND PLEXIGEL Bonder and Builder feature a short, flat brush for precision placement. The Shaper & Protector Top Coat feature a long, full brush for flow and smooth application.

Q: How many approximate services per bottle of CND PLEXIGEL?

A: CND PLEXIGEL Bonder = 100 (15mL / 0.5 fl. oz)
CND PLEXIGEL Shaper = 30 (15mL / 0.5 fl. oz)
CND PLEXIGEL Builder = 20 (15mL / 0.5 fl. oz)
CND PLEXIGEL Protector Top Coat = 80 (15mL / 0.5 fl. oz)

Q: How long will the LED units/lamp last?

A: The LED units in the lamp have a life expectancy of 10,000 hours. The amount of services per day will affect the number of years that the lamp/bulb will last.

Q: Does the CND LED Lamp count down the time?

A: Yes, the CND LED Lamp counts down the time for each service and will automatically shut off.

Q: What is the wattage of the CND LED Lamp?

A: The input power is 36 Watts (W).

Q: Is the CND LED Lamp acetone and alcohol resistant?

A: Yes, the CND LED Lamp is acetone and alcohol resistant. Take care when cleaning to not touch the lens in the LED chamber.

Q: Does the CND LED Lamp have a fan?

A: The open CND LED Lamp has a fan that keeps the electronics from overheating. Due to the position of the electronics, the closed CND LED Lamp does not need a fan to keep from overheating.

Q: Can I still "lock" the product for 10 seconds in the CND LED Lamp?

A: Yes, you can use the preset button 1 to "lock" the product; the pulsing setting will provide the appropriate level of energy to lock the product in place.

Q: What kind of light do LED lamps emit?

A: LED lamps emit a combination of UV and visible light.

Q: is LED technology more efficient?

A: Yes, LED units are more energy efficient than the fluorescent bulbs found in traditional UV lamps. The shorter cure time also helps improve energy efficiency.

Q: How do I know if my client's hand is in the correct position for proper curing in the CND LED Lamp?

A: Open the CND LED Lamp: Ensure the client's thumb and fingers are resting in the finger placement at the front of the lamp.

Closed CND LED Lamp: Ensure the client's thumb is in the thumb slot and the remainder of the fingers are fully in the lamp.

Q: How do I perform a CND SHELLAC pedicure with the open CND LED Lamp?

A: To properly cure toes in the open CND LED Lamp, the foot needs to be correctly positioned; ensuring toes are placed directly in the alignment guides of the lamp. Place the client's foot into the center of the lamp between the outside alignment guides, as close to the reflective wall as possible but no more than 1/2 inch (1.27cm) away from the front reflective wall. Ensure lamp is cleaned between each service.

Q: How do I perform a CND SHELLAC pedicure with the closed CND LED Lamp?

A: To properly cure toes in the closed CND LED Lamp, the foot needs to be correctly positioned. The closed CND LED Lamp features a removable plate. The plate is held on by magnets and can easily be detached from the lamp by holding the lamp and pulling gently to separate them. Place lamp over the client's foot, as close to the reflective wall as possible. Ensure lamp is cleaned between each service.

Q: Can I put products on my workstation near the CND LED Lamp?

A: CND recommends you avoid placing products within a 2-inch radius surrounding the open areas of the lamp. When light-curable products are not in use, ensure they are properly closed to precent curing.

Q: What products can be used with the CND LED Lamp?

A: The CND LED Lamp is designed to completely cure all CND light-curable systems.

Q: If I hit the incorrect preset button how do I switch settings?

A: Turn the lamp off and wait 3 seconds and then turn it back on and select the correct setting.

Q: Do all preset buttons pulse?

A: The preset button 2S is the only setting that does not pulse.

Q: Why does the closed CND LED Lamp feel warmer during the curing process?

A: The closed CND LED Lamp was designed without a fan and this can contribute to a warmer internal lamp temperature. If heat becomes uncomfortable for the client, have them remove their hand from the lamp for a few seconds.

Q: Why are my clients experiencing "heat spikes" while curing?

A: Clients with thin or weak nail plates can be more sensitive to heat sensations. If gel is applied to thickly, the client may experience heat sensations during curing. Have the client remove their hand from the lamp for 3-5 seconds and then place their hand back into the lamp to complete the cure.

Q: How do I clean the CND LED Lamp(s)?

A: Keep lamp dust free by unplugging the lamp and wiping daily with a pre-moistened towel. See operating instructions for complete care and use.
