Yellow, Marked Down — This Month Only

Butter yellow is the shade of the season — and yellow doesn't stop there. Here's every family of yellow worth wearing, how to mix your own, and the exact bottles to shop.

Beyond Polish EditorialColor Trends7 min read

Let's address it up front: yellow nails have a reputation. For years, yellow was the shade everyone admired on Pinterest and nobody actually bought. Then butter yellow happened — the soft, creamy, sun-warmed pastel that took over fashion month and hasn't let go since. It's been called the most-requested manicure of the season, it flatters far more skin tones than the neons of summers past, and it's still climbing into 2026.

So we're leaning in. Below: the three yellow families worth knowing, the exact shades to grab in each, and a mixing guide for creating a custom yellow nobody else has. And because yellow shouldn't require commitment, every pick here is budget-friendly — DND gel-and-lacquer duos run under $7 every day, and right now select yellows are marked down even further in our Bucket Sale.

This Month Only

Yellow is in the Bucket Sale. Select yellow lacquers are $2 and yellow gel polishes are $6 while stock lasts — shop the full Bucket Sale here. No restocks at these prices.

Butter Yellow Nails: The Pastel That Started It All

Soft, creamy, and quietly expensive-looking.

If you try one yellow this year, make it butter. Pastel yellow nails read like a warm neutral — closer to a French vanilla than a highlighter — which is exactly why they've crossed over from runway to everyday. Butter yellow works on short natural nails, long almond sets, and everything between, and it pairs beautifully with gold jewelry. Keep it one-coat sheer for a whisper of color or build to two coats for a full creme finish.

Butter yellow is the rare trend shade that behaves like a neutral — it goes with denim, linen, black, everything.

Bright Yellow Nails That Don't Apologize

For the taxi-cab, highlighter, sunflower crowd.

Once butter yellow pulls you in, the saturated end of the spectrum starts calling. Bright yellow nail designs — think sunflower nails, yellow French tip nails, or a full set in taxi-cab yellow — photograph incredibly well and are the fastest way to make a tan look tanner. Pro tip for the vivid shades: use two thin coats over a white or milky base to keep the color true and opaque, exactly the way nail techs do it for neon services. Prefer long-wear? Every bright below also lives in our yellow gel polish collection.

Golden Yellows: How Yellow Nails Transition Into Fall

Mimosa, honey, and marigold — yellow's cozy era.

Here's the part nobody tells you: yellow doesn't retire in September. It just deepens. Golden and honeyed yellows are the natural bridge from summer brights into autumn's amber-and-caramel palette, and they sit gorgeously next to the browns and burgundies you'll be wearing in a month. Buy these now at sale prices and you're set through Thanksgiving.

The Mixing Bar

How to Mix Your Own Custom Yellow

Three recipes, zero shades anyone else is wearing.

Here's the real reason to stock up while yellow lacquers are $2: custom color mixing. Nail artists blend polishes constantly to hit shades that don't exist in any bottle — and when your ingredients cost less than a pack of gum, there's no pressure to get it perfect the first time. A few ground rules before you start: only mix lacquer with lacquer (regular polish and gel polish have different chemistry and should never be blended together), mix small batches on a foil or silicone palette with a dotting tool or toothpick, and work quickly — lacquer starts to thicken once it's out of the bottle.

DIY Butter Yellow
3 drops white + 1 drop bright yellow

The classic. Start with three drops of a clean white like OPI Alpine Snow, add one drop of Sunny Delight or Canary Crush lacquer, and blend. Add yellow drop by drop until you hit your perfect butter — more white for a whisper, more yellow for a statement.

Lemon Chiffon
2 drops white + 2 drops lemon

Equal parts white and Lemon Sorbet lacquer gives you a chilled, milky lemon that sits beautifully under a glossy top coat — very "lemon nails" without the acidity. Gorgeous as a full mani or as the base for daisy nail art.

Marigold Cream
2 drops golden yellow + 1 drop white

Two drops of Mimosa or (Bee)Ffr lacquer plus one drop of white creates a soft marigold — the muted, editorial gold that transitions perfectly into fall. This one deserves an accent nail at minimum.

Gel users, you're not left out — you just customize by layering instead of mixing. Cure one thin coat of a white or milky gel base, then float a single thin coat of your yellow gel over it: the white underneath softens and pastels-out whatever yellow you use. One coat of Yellow Taxi over DND Perfect White #156 reads butter; two coats reads sunshine. Same bottles, four different manicures.

5 Yellow Nail Ideas to Screenshot for Your Next Mani

Easy yellow nail designs, ranked from subtle to statement.
  1. Butter yellow French tips — swap classic white tips for Banana Cream or Daffodil Duck Walk over a nude base. The single most-searched way to wear yellow right now, and the most office-friendly.
  2. Daisy accent nails — a milky or sheer base with tiny white-petal, yellow-center daisies on one or two nails. Use a dotting tool and your Lemon Chiffon mix for the centers.
  3. Butter yellow + gold — pastel yellow base with a thin gold foil line or gold chrome accent nail. Reads expensive; costs about $8 total at these prices.
  4. Sunflower accent — canary petals around a brown center on a butter base. Late-summer perfection with Canary Crush and Honey pulling double duty.
  5. Golden ombré — sponge Mimosa into Honey from cuticle to tip for a sunset-gradient set that carries you straight into fall.

Sheer, glossy yellows also make a gorgeous jelly finish — if that's your lane, our jelly nails guide covers the layering technique. And for long-wear yellow sets with extra strength, apply your color over a structured base using the method in our Ultimate Guide to Builder Gel.

🚚 Every order ships from California in 1–2 business days — and standard shipping is free on orders $75+ (continental U.S., after discounts). Plenty of room in the cart for one more yellow.

Your yellow era starts here.

Butter, lemon, canary, honey — every shade in this post is in stock and ships fast, with select yellows marked down in this month's Bucket Sale.
